MUSEUM OF HUMAN EVOLUTION

To arrive at the car park (which charges a parking fee), take the street (Calle in Spanish) called “Burgense”, 10 (GPS). The car park is located under the museum.
Quick visit
One hour is sufficient for an initial viewing of the main exhibits of the Museum of Human Evolution. This tour starts on the floor -1, which dedicated to discoveries made in Atapuerca. On this floor you can witness the first discovered and most important fossils found at the Atapuerca site, such as the remains of Homo antecessor or the cranium number 5. These archaeological treasures are on permanent exhibit.
On the floor upstairs, which focuses on biological evolution, the Evolution Gallery is a ‘must see’, where you can travel back into to the evolution of mankind through the hyper realistic sculptures of Elizabeth Daynès. Additionally you will find a recreation of the Beagle, Darwin’s first ship which was used on his travels that his theory of evolution was based on. And you can venture inside the human brain, via an installation created by the artist Daniel Canogar, giving a profound insight into the most complex of human organs.
On the 3rd floor, the cultural evolution of mankind is examined, whereby through several audiovisual presentations that give you a virtual window into the evolution of the breakthroughs that characterize evolution of human society: fire, the manufacture of stone tools and the creation of cave paintings.
The tour finishes on the upper floor, where you can take an amazing and impressive view of the Museum's architecture and contemplate the diverse ecosystems of Sierra de Atapuerca.
