MEH
The Museum of Human Evolution, under the authority of the Regional Government of Castilla y León, has created a new virtual tour that shows part of its permanent exhibition and which can be accessed from the Museum's website with any computer or smartphone. Virtual tours are one of the most in-demand interactive experiences for museum visitors. The Museum will show the most important content in its permanent exhibition complemented with explanatory videos, audio clips and infographics. Thus, several infographics on the Museum's permanent exhibition will be made available to users, as well as texts and projections, and it will be possible to access practically all of the Museum's content on the Sierra de Atapuerca mountain range.
This virtual tour is available from Wednesday, March 25, and contains 21 MEH spots explained by its general coordinator, Aurora Martín, and by the head of Education and Dynamisation, Rodrigo Alonso. It has been created with responsive web design, so it will be displayed accurately from different devices such as computers, electronic tablets and smartphones.
Different routes
The first spots that the virtual visitor will be able to view will be the entrance to the Museum, which will be accompanied by an explanation of the architecture of the centre and the vision of its architect, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, when building it. Subsequently, it will be explained how the Museum is divided and what visitors can see on each of its floors.
The highlight of this tour will be the two capsules on floor -1 of the Museum that contain the original fossils from Atapuerca; the first, the originals from the Railroad Trench sites, which will be explained using fossils of Homo antecessor such as 'El Chico de la Gran Dolina'. Additionally, you can learn about about the lithic industry and the fauna of this prehistoric time and the occupation of the upper level of the Gran Dolina Site as a camp and the functioning of the Sierra de Atapuerca Gallery site as a natural trap.
Subsequently, the virtual tour will feature the Sima de los Huesos (Pit of Bones) and the Homo heidelbergensis fossils found there, such as skull 5, also known by the name 'Miguelón'. You can also watch a video about the Sima de los Huesos, as well as the hologram that explains each of the original fossils exhibited in the capsule. The tour will end on floor 2 of the MEH with an explanation of the different ecosystems of the Sierra de Atapuerca.
In total, 21 Museum spots can be visited on the website WWW.MUSEOEVOLUCIONHUMANA.COM and they will be shared one by one through MEH social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. The tour can be viewed in its entirety when each of these 21 spots have been shared.
