ATAPUERCA SYSTEM CENTRES, CARDIO-PROTECTED AREAS

Four defibrillators, which incorporate the latest technology and are easy to use, have been installed at the MEH, the Sites, the Carex and the Cayac to treat possible cases of cardio-respiratory arrest. The visitor service staff have received training to respond to any emergency.

The Atapuerca System has installed four defibrillators in each of its tourist attractions: the Museum of Human Evolution, the Atapuerca Sites, the Centre for Experimental Archaeology (Carex) and the Ibeas de Juarros Site Access Centre (Cayak). These are four semi-automatic external 'Lifeline' model devices with 'Defitech' technology that are very easy to use and have been specially designed for those cases of cardiac arrest that occur outside hospitals (approximately 80%), since their ease of use means that non-medical personnel can operate them safely and effectively.

The MEH, Sites, Carex and Cayac education team, as well as the security and surveillance personnel, have received the appropriate training to use said devices in any emergency.

Latest technology

The 'Lifeline' defibrillator uses advanced biphasic technology and automatically adjusts the shock energy to the needs of the individual being treated. Because of its ease of use and reliability, it is the first choice of most defibrillation instructors and healthcare personnel, and for police, fire, and emergency medical professionals. For schools, offices, department stores, factories, theatres, public spaces, etc., it is becoming as vital as fire extinguishers.

Additionally, its low maintenance needs make it a very suitable device for cardiac protection in workplaces and places where there is a high influx of people, to make these locations safer and treat possible cardiac arrests. They have been created by experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams and incorporate the latest advances in digital signal processing techniques and ECG analysis algorithms and their equipment performance complies with all AHA (American Heart Association) recommendations, to give the user the assurance that the appropriate care is being provided.
